Position Description

This GIS Analyst position supports a wide range of projects critical to the mission of internal and external clients. This position is responsible for the creation of custom mapping products based on client data specifications, maintaining and updating geospatial mapping databases, conducting spatial data analysis using a variety of GIS software and tools, and developing and executing automated production workflows. This position is responsible for mission-critical geospatial data development in an often fast-paced environment.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Daily utilization of ArcGIS Pro, Portal, ArcMap Suite 10.X, and ArcMap Extensions, such as Data Interoperability, Network Analyst, Parcel Fabric, Publisher, and Data Reviewer for the production of mapping products
  • Produce spatial data sets and mapping layers and provide analysis utilizing Model Builder
  • Support the maintenance of geospatial data in specified Spatial Data environments
  • Create custom GIS scripts, tools, and applications for various data processing requirements
  • Engage customers to determine requirements, propose solutions, and assist with implementation
  • Develop and modify automated map and KML production workflows
  • Meet quality and performance standards
  • Degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, or related field, or 3 years of experience with no degree
  • Experience in GIS technologies and industry-standard software
  • Experience working as a contractor to Federal Government entities, Bureau of Indian Affairs preferred, in a structured environment
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Esri ArcGIS suite of products for the development of a wide variety of geospatial mapping products (Traverse tool, Workflow Manager, Parcel Fabric, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of legal land descriptions (TRS, SAB, LBS, Metes & Bounds), right of ways and leases
  • Knowledge of standardized geospatial and GIS software/hardware applicable to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and tribes
  • Ability to display professionalism in interfacing with clients and customers under pressure
  • Demonstrated skills in database programming languages, such as Python and Keyhole Markup Language
  • Ability to possess a government-issued access card
  • Strong team player capable of adapting to a changing work environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities and short deadlines
  • Outstanding attention to detail with good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new software, procedures, and workflow processes

Physical Requirements for the role

This position is primarily sedentary and requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods, including viewing monitors, using keyboards, and operating standard office equipment. The role may require occasional standing, walking, and minimal lifting (up to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

The work environment for this position is primarily a professional office or remote setting with standard business conditions. The role involves regular use of computers and GIS technology in a low-noise environment and frequent collaboration with technical and non-technical team members. Work is generally performed during normal business hours with minimal physical risk, and the environment supports adherence to established data security, safety, and organizational policies.

Security Clearance Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a government-issued access card as required by the position.

Travel Requirements

Travel is anticipated to be minimal, with occasional site visits to client locations as needed for project requirements.

Compensation

Salary will be determined based on the individual's education and experience level.
